Specialized & Post-Operative Care Lymphatic Drainage

Gentle Techniques. Targeted Care. Individualized Recovery.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique that uses gentle, rhythmic movements to encourage the natural movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body. Unlike traditional massage, MLD uses very light pressure and specific techniques designed to support lymphatic fluid movement and help manage certain types of swelling.

At Medical Massage with Haley, lymphatic drainage sessions are customized to your individual needs, medical history, and stage of recovery.

Whether you're seeking support following surgery, managing swelling associated with a medical condition, or receiving care recommended by your healthcare provider, my goal is to provide safe, comfortable, and individualized treatment.

Who Can Benefit From Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual lymphatic drainage may be appropriate for clients experiencing:

  • Post-Operative Swelling: Support for appropriate healing and swelling management following surgical procedures.

  • Cosmetic Surgery Recovery: Specialized care following procedures such as liposuction, tummy tucks, breast augmentation, and other cosmetic surgeries when medically appropriate. Drains must be removed to receive treatments.

  • Lymphedema: Gentle techniques that may help manage certain types of swelling of a specific area, often as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

  • Oncology-Related Swelling: Individualized lymphatic care for appropriate clients experiencing swelling associated with cancer treatment. Oncologist clearance may be required.

  • Other Swelling Concerns: Certain types of fluid accumulation when the underlying cause has been medically evaluated.

Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage

Recovering from surgery can involve swelling, tightness, tenderness, and changes in how your body feels.

Post-operative lymphatic drainage uses gentle techniques that may help manage appropriate post-surgical swelling and discomfort as part of your recovery plan.

I have specialized training in lymphatic drainage for clients recovering from cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, including:

  • Liposuction

  • Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

  • Breast Augmentation

  • Breast Reconstruction

  • Other surgical procedures when appropriate

Every recovery is different. Treatment techniques, positioning, and appointment frequency are determined by your procedure, medical history, healing progress, and your surgeon's recommendations.

Lymphatic drainage does not replace medical follow-up, compression garments, or other post-operative instructions provided by your surgical team.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your first appointment begins with a review of your medical history, current concerns, and treatment goals.

For post-operative clients, we'll discuss your surgical procedure, surgery date, healing progress, and any instructions provided by your surgeon, and focused areas.

Unlike deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage uses light, gentle movements rather than firm pressure.

Treatment is adapted to your individual needs and comfort level.

Depending on your condition and recovery stage, multiple appointments may be recommended.

Important Information Before Booking

Your safety is always the priority.

If you've recently undergone surgery, are receiving cancer treatment, or have a medical condition associated with swelling, medical clearance may be required before your appointment.

Certain conditions, including suspected blood clots, active infections, or unexplained swelling, may make lymphatic drainage inappropriate until medically evaluated.

For post-operative appointments, please include your procedure and surgery date in your booking notes.

If you're unsure whether lymphatic drainage is appropriate for you, please contact me before scheduling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is lymphatic drainage painful?

No. Manual lymphatic drainage is generally performed using very gentle pressure. It should not feel like deep tissue massage.

How soon after surgery can I schedule?

The appropriate timing depends on your procedure, healing progress, and surgeon's instructions. Generally when your surgeon gives you clearance, and drains are removed then you are ready for MLD.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies based on your condition, treatment goals, and response to care. Recommendations are individualized. Planning ahead for a series of treatments is best, generally post-operative clients need multiple sessions a week.

Can lymphatic drainage help with swelling after liposuction or a tummy tuck?

Manual lymphatic drainage may help manage certain types of post-operative swelling when performed at an appropriate stage of recovery and with consideration of your surgeon's instructions.

Is lymphatic drainage the same as a regular massage?

No. Manual lymphatic drainage uses specialized, light-pressure techniques intended to encourage lymphatic fluid movement. Traditional massage generally focuses more on muscles and soft tissues.
